Austria | Vienna | February 2019 | 4 days |
The second country I chose to visit was none other than Austria. Mainly due to a desire to visit Vienna, as I had heard wonderful things about this city.
My plan was to get the most enjoyment out of the attractions and treats provided by the city during my stay.
Vienna
The pale-bleached buildings of Vienna are uncanny and majestic. Each building was nearly unique in its decoration. Their architectural magnificence further expanded by little ornaments, which certainly were worked on painstakingly all those years ago and have yet to loose their splendour.
At the time of writing, Vienna remains, in my opinion, the classiest European city.
Every shop, cafe and restaurant in this city has a standard classiness that outranks all other cities I’ve visited.
The service is impeccable, the food delicious and the coffee outstanding.
All of this is complemented by their locations: from ‘tucked-in-a-hole’ at an alleyway to facing Vienna’s dazzling St. Stephen’s Cathedral at the main square.
Exploring the city and spotting Nic Cage
When it comes to exploring the city you can and probably should loose yourself in it, go forth and explore their alleyways, intersections, gardens/parks and things of this nature. Doing so is unlikely to disappoint.
In my case it really did not disappoint, as exploring lead to me walking past Nicolas Cage (the actor).
That was unexpected to say the least, and never had I been so close to a celebrity without any commotion or massive crowds surrounding said celebrity. It was a peaceful environment then as other people spotted him and also were in awe but everyone just kept going about their business. Indeed a classy city with classy natives and visitors.
The food
Upon descending the beautiful and statue ridden gardens of the Belvedere palace I was peckish but also keen in continue exploring the city, hence a light meal was in order. A near by brewery was serving the traditional ‘wiener schnitzel’, a veal meat fillet with herb seasoned potatoes; in other words, I had found my light (and delicious) meal.
On the subject of food, the desserts in Vienna are worth a distinction as they have a connection with the city and its people history. The Sachertorte, Mozart torte and Apple Strudel were some of my favourite ones.
Accompanying the desserts, I’d tend to order myself a coffee with cream which was religiously served with a glass of tap water - as a side note, the tap water in Vienna was very good and from a taste standpoint it was just as good as most bottle waters.
