France | Toulouse | September 2019 | 4 days |
I’ve always wanted to visit France and see if it checked out given how its one of the most reputed countries out there, certainly so one of the most in Europe.
Toulouse was my choice given how it wasn’t a metropolitan city and I was not in the mood for a glamorous and big holiday and because I had heard great things about Toulous.
Toulouse
Toulouse is located in the southwestern part of France, it’s fairly close to the Spanish border where one can also find the Pyrénées mountain range. In fact my flight with origin in Lisbon overflew the Pyrénées and this was in a clear and blue skies day which made the views from the plane over the Pyrénées that more enjoyable.
In its essence, Toulouse is a fairly juvenile and students city. Some streets and parts of Toulouse feel fairly rural and make for excellent sightseeing and walking experiences.
The buzzing part of the city is by the river where the locals hangout and where one can find all types of bars and restaurants. A few bridges along the Garonne river make for great photo ops of the river itself and the land buildings on each side of the city.
Though the river divides the city in two, I couldn’t find much to see or do on the southwestern side of the river and I’ve ended up just spending a shy few hours there but those were well spend hours so I definitely recommend crossing the bridges to that side and have a walk around.
France is renowned for its food and Toulouse certainly lived up to my expectations as well as having delicious food the city busy restaurants and cafes make it so that there was a constant food aroma in the air which was quite a unique characteristic of Toulouse and does make me wonder if other french cities will have the same.
Au revoir!
