Czech Republic | Prague | November 2019 | 2 days |
After numerous recommendations to visit Prague I finally did it this year and ended up having a blast there.
This also marked my first time visiting Czech Republic and was therefore the 11th new country I visited this year.
Prague
A lovely river, great food, castles, bridges and oddities spread out through Prague make it a rather interesting city to visit. In many ways it’s comparable to Budapest where I visited earlier this year.
I found Prague to be pricier than I had expected given I had heard from numerous sources it was a cheap city. Although I was only here for 2 days, it felt most places were “tourist traps” when it came to prices. During my stay I managed to find but one cheap whine bar which was quite cosy and secluded enough from the main tourist spots. The bar was called U SUDU.
When it comes to sightseeing, Prague has a lot to offer and a single day is likely insufficient to cover their most interesting attractions.
I vividly recommend visiting Prague Castle as it’s on the least frequented side of the river and it’s up in a hill. You’ll be able to get some great pictures from up there overseeing Prague and also from the actual castle and what lies within its walls.
At the time of visit they had a Christmas market setup in the Prague Castle courtyard which came in handy to get a quick bite and recharge. It was also here where I tried my first ever trdelnik, a dough based pastry that is sweet and served in a cylinder shape but hollow inside and typically sprinkled and flavoured with cinnamon.
Prague has a few rooftop bars that are worth visiting, so if that’s one’s preference some research ahead of time could be useful to get a proper list compiled. I had a few on my list but ended up just visiting the one: Terasa U Prince which had funky and customized cocktails. I was there at night time so can’t judge the view from the rooftop fairly but it seemed pretty good at night-time.
An interesting, and perhaps least touristy, thing I did was visiting the narrowest street of Prague. It’s a short and quick detour best done back to back before/after visiting the famous John Lennon wall. There are also some lovely parks around this area.
John Lennon wall and Charles Bridge were the most crowded places in Prague which made photography there tricky. Specially singe I was aiming to get a few snaps with as least humans as possible. I was rather unlucky as I was faced with a school kids lot all queueing up for their individual photos of the John Lennon wall. Patience is a virtue…
I’m finishing this post up from a hostel in Nice, France where I’ve travelled to so I’m close to my next and final new country of this series.
Stay tuned for the last entry in the series!
